Winter preparations in Fernie brings ski swap, film fest and Santa Paws

Fernie is always lively in the winter and to help residents and visitors get in the spirit, we’ve got fantastic ideas for families, couples and friends to do in preparation for another powder filled season.

On Saturday November 10th, head down to the Fernie Community Center for the FAST Ski Swap. Sell and buy equipment and gear for the upcoming season. Then at night, take in 3 amazing new riding films at the Fernie Ski & Board Film Fest. Taking place at the Fernie Community Center this year, with a big screen and professional sound, they will be showing Greg Stump’s Legend of Aaahh’s, TGR’s The Dream Factory and Jeremy Jones Further. The showing will include great prizes including cat skiing, lift tickets, first tracks, skis, boards and more. If you feel like partying a little, Fernie Brewing Co. will also be on hand and pouring a selection of their latest great brews. Fresh pizza, popcorn and beverages will be served and local resorts and retailers will be exhibiting their goods. Head down to the Pub after for an after party that will feature more prizes and fundraising. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for kids and include all three shows.

Now … we’ve all been waiting for it. Last year, Disney graced the streets of Fernie while filming their latest installment of Santa Paws. For a month, Fernie was transformed into winter in the middle of October. The cutest little puppies ever, Hope, Jingle, Charity and Noble warmed hearts and the movie features a great cast including Cheryl Ladd (Charlie’s Angels) and Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld).
