Summer officially starts in Fernie on Canada Day long weekend – and it starts with a bang! So many events – our hotel guests will find it hard to choose!
The annual Lizard Range Disc Golf Tournament is taking place June 28th. A super fun event for all ages, open or advanced, men, women or junior categories. Established in 2004 and designed by Serge Gosselin, the course is located in James White Park and is an 18 hole course with Mach 3 baskets on the front nine and Innova DISCatcher Pros on the back nine. The course is located on a well manicured city park surrounded by cottonwoods with tight wooded fairways, lots of OB (paths/roads) with a length of 4800 ft.
Starting Saturday, June 28th and running until June 30th, the Fernie 3: Mountain Bike Stage Race is Fernie’s newest event, an old favourite with a new twist! The creators of the TransRockies who’ve staged events in Fernie for the 12 years, and a few other events have come and gone. This June the locals who made it happen present the ultimate all mountain 3 day stage race, the Fernie 3. The Fernie 3 will cater to new riders and gnarled veterans alike, with focus on the best singletrack stages ever, followed by classic Fernie hospitality! The distances will be moderate, at around 30km per day, and the climbing will be attainable with the goal of providing the best possible descents. The Red Tree Lodge is proud to offer participant rates for this great event.
The 1st Annual Roll & Sole Festival is set to begin June 28th. Bike, Hike, Run – it’s a weekend of fun! Guided hikes and mountain bike rides for all levels, lunch social, beverage gardens and live outdoor music.
Fernie Alpine Resort opens for summer operations on Saturday, June 28th. Most popular during the winter for it’s epic powder, in the summer, Fernie Alpine Resort boasts one of the best lift-accessed trail networks in Western Canada. The Elk and Timber chairs provide a scenic chairlift ride up the mountain. From the top hikers can explore a variety of spectacular alpine trails, meadows and summits around Fernie Alpine Resort. Join one of the guided hikes and discover the native flora, local wildlife and fossils that make Fernie their home, both half day and full day hikes are offered. If you prefer mountain biking, Fernie Alpine Resort’s variety of 37 bike trails offers something for everyone. Wide machine-made flowing trails for beginner / intermediate riders and challenging steep and technical single track trails for advanced / expert riders. Try out the Aerial Park and Rippin’ Zipline for an adrenaline rush!
To finish off the weekend, celebrate our nation’s birthday with Canada Day celebrations on Tuesday, July 1st. Come to Prentice Park and the Fernie Seconday School Grounds and take part in the Pet & Bike Parade, Treasure Hunt, Bike Rodeo, Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Bouncy Tents and a Craft Tent.
