Heiko's Hellish Half Marathon is a 25km course, beginning off at Hartley Lake Road and ending in Fernie's Annex Park. With notable elevations along the way, Three Sisters Pass (7500ft), Windy Pass (7000ft) and Mt. Fernie Ridge (6500ft). Overall, 4000ft of vertical gain and over a mile of descent.

The Red Tree Lodge recently spoke to the marathon's creator Ross Frazier, about his racing, Heiko's and more.

"I've raced in the Calgary Half, but doubling back and running on pavement killed my enthusiasm. I planned on taking in other races, including the Seven Summits race in Rossland, but even after hearing great things about the trail and how scenic it is, I felt it paled in comparison to Fernie's own Heiko's Trail."

"I've told a few people about my idea over the years and the responses were always positive, but I never really set anything into motion; that is until I mentioned it to my buddy Dave Hengen this past fall. Right away he was fully committed to making it happen and we work well as a team."
