Stay at the Red Tree Lodge and mountain bike at Fernie Alpine Resort

Fernie have seen more sunshine in the last 2 weeks than all winter and to be honest no one is complaining! When the sun comes out, Fernie comes alive. You smell the neighbours delicious steak from Back Country Meats being BBQ'd. The streets become filled with residents riding their bicycles or walking their dogs. The biking trails start to lose their snow coverings and become tracked out once again by mountain bike enthusiasts. Summer is beginning to attract more and more visitors who slowly turn into residents and start to live by the saying "I came for the winter, but stayed for the summer".

Golfing at the Fernie Golf & Country Club championship course

Tucked away in the southeast corner of British Columbia lies one of Canada's top golf destinations: the Kootenay Rockies. Surround yourself amongst chiseled peaks, majestic rivers and unspoiled forests. With 27 golf courses to choose from, we thought we'd give you a list of our Top 10 (we tried to narrow it down to 5, but it was just too hard!).

Legendary powder in Fernie, BC keeps on falling

Fernie Alpine Resort provides visitors from all over the world with a chance to experience uncrowded trails, mild climate and of course, legendary powder. Usually February provides fantastic powder conditions, but this year it took almost a week before Fernie saw another snowflake fall from the sky. Finally after waiting patiently, we were blanketed with more of that legendary powder.

Kokanee's The Movie Out Here

This past fall the Red Tree Lodge helped provide accommodation for the cast of Kokanee's new movie "The Movie Out Here". It's Kokanee's first dip into the movie industry, a Canadian beer brewed only an hour and a half from Fernie.

Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association

Fernie is known for it's legendary powder, but many people are often hungry for more. For that fresh, soft, untouched, waist deep powder, which can only be found in the backcountry. Every winter more powder hungry enthusiasts are in search of the best spots to ride their snowboard, skies or snowmobile and experience what riding in the Rockies is all about.

Unfortunately this winter we will not be offering dog sledding as part of our Winter packages. We still have great Stay & Play options available including snowshoeing, cat skiing, first tracks and snowmobiling. As always it's paired with our affordable and comfortable accommodation.

Fernie Alpine Resort opens this Saturday

Fernie Alpine Resort is just 2 days away from opening for the 2012/13 season and Fernie is a buzz about it. Just yesterday I was in the grocery store when I ran into a colleagues husband. He said nothing was new, except that he was waiting for the ski hill to open. No surprise there, after all that's what keeps us in Fernie. The legendary powder, friendly people, amazing nightlife, legendary powder, endless activities ... did I say legendary powder?
