Fernie Alpine Resort opens this Saturday

Fernie Alpine Resort is just 2 days away from opening for the 2012/13 season and Fernie is a buzz about it. Just yesterday I was in the grocery store when I ran into a colleagues husband. He said nothing was new, except that he was waiting for the ski hill to open. No surprise there, after all that's what keeps us in Fernie. The legendary powder, friendly people, amazing nightlife, legendary powder, endless activities ... did I say legendary powder?

There are many legends about Fernie, including the tale of the Ghostrider and of course the most popular, The Griz. Fernie was not always blessed with an abundance of powder. It took a local man, a hero in these parts, to coax the snow from the sky, gracing the region with an astounding annual snowfall of over 29 feet.

This past Wednesday one of our staff members Kelly came to work with a beaming smile on her face. It could only mean one thing. Enough snow had fallen in Fernie and she got to experience her first Canadian winter and brushing off her car. (For those Canadians reading this, I'm not sure how one could be so excited to do this!?)

Winter has landed in Fernie and we are all incredibly excited to welcome the first snowfall of the season! There is plenty more in the forecast, and after the last couple of seasons of over 11.5m snow each anticipation is high for another epic season of powder!

On Wednesday morning, residents of Fernie got a little taste of winter. Upon opening our curtains we discovered the mountains had been blanketed with snow. With this first falling of snow, comes excitement and great anticipation of another epic season at Fernie Alpine Resort.
